Sweet Sixteen

image of birthday cakeMy daughter turned 16 years old today. Amazing – where have the years gone. It seems like almost yesterday that we were racing down County Road 42 from our home to the hospital pacing through my wife’s contractions. Then just a short time later, our one and only daughter arrived into our lives. Twice, we had experienced the birth of a son, and three times later we would again share that similar experience (though each one was unique and special) but this was something totally different.

Learning a lot from kindergarten

I have the great privilege of teaching every other week in the kindergarten class at our church. I started out somewhat apprehensive of the responsibility and found myself stressed every other Saturday because I just wasn’t ready mentally for the task. What really bothered me was that this seemed ridiculous to me that someone like me who taught for nine years (7 of those with elementary students) would struggle with teaching kindergartners a Sunday school lesson. It

iPhone – Man’s best friend?

While reading articles on my RSS reader this morning, I came across this piece by Rich Mogol on Tidbits. Rich extols the virtues of the iPhone for frequent business travelers:

I realize I may sing the praises of my iPhone a little too often here, but the truth is that as a frequent traveler I’ve never had such a useful tool at my disposal.

A tribute to Veterans from Steven Curtis Chapman

In honor of Veterans Day, this excerpt is from Steven Curtis Chapman’s website:

Apple Earphone cord management

John Gruber in his Daring Fireball blog talks about changes to the familiar Apple white earbuds that are standard issue for the iPhone/iPod.

Like most of you, I suspect, I’ve wound up with an awful lot of white Apple earphones over the last seven years. There have been subtle changes to the earbud shape, and the iPhone introduced the wonderful clicker (click for play/pause, double-click for next track, triple-click for previous track), but one thing has remained a constant: the cords get terribly tangled when bunched up in a pocket or pouch.

The loud talkers aways find me

What do these things have in common?
  • A soft seat
  • A steaming cup of hot coffee
  • A good book and a great magazine
  • Free wifi and my Dell Mini 9

All these things were in place for me to enjoy a quiet and fine evening at the Starbucks on Century. I have been looking forward to this all day and now finally the time has arrived.

Great sites in out of the way places

I love the Fall. The cooler weather and the beautiful colors make me want to spend as much time outside as I possibly can. Bismarck is a great place to be this time of the year. Taking a walk around the Capitol mall shortly before sunset, I snapped this picture with my iPhone of the Capitol building with the sun reflecting off the west side.

Testing…1…2…3…

Hello World!

This is my first official post (the first several drafts don’t count) on the infamous Quawkle page! As of right now the only thing I feel I have to talk about is…well, nothing at the moment. Yet Quawkle is the HQ for mindless chatter, so I’m safe in having little to share. However future posts may include sports updates, random facts, and the latest from my daily soaking of college learning….
