My son, Ben, attends a university in central Florida. This is his freshman year and he is doing very well. Of course we miss him a great deal, but as his father, I am especially proud of his independence and ability to “make it on his own.” He is coming home for Thanksgiving soon; the airline ticket for his flight home and back after Thanksgiving break was atrociously expensive. → Read the rest

Review: Simplify Media – simply great!

Alright, I confess right up front, I have way more songs in my iTunes library than I ever do or will listen to. But I am one of those guys that likes to think I have my whole library always available for any situation. You know, like when I am at the park with my beautiful wife, a quaint picnic blanket and lunch, and a beautiful azure sky with one or two large cumulus clouds lazily floating across the sky.

Apple Earphone cord management

John Gruber in his Daring Fireball blog talks about changes to the familiar Apple white earbuds that are standard issue for the iPhone/iPod.

Like most of you, I suspect, I’ve wound up with an awful lot of white Apple earphones over the last seven years. There have been subtle changes to the earbud shape, and the iPhone introduced the wonderful clicker (click for play/pause, double-click for next track, triple-click for previous track), but one thing has remained a constant: the cords get terribly tangled when bunched up in a pocket or pouch.

Review: Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 Compact Speakers for iPod and iPhone

I have tried a number of portable speakers for my use with my 3G iPhone. When traveling for work, I like to be able to listen to music in my hotel room either from my iPhone directly or via applications like Simplify Media, Pandora, LastFM, or even IceCast stations. I own several iPod portable speaker like the Altec Lansing inMotion series, but in every case, I have to deal with the iPhone incompatibility message and the typical GSM buzzing noise that occurs when the phone radio is active.
