Review of the Jawbone JAMBOX Bluetooth Speaker

I recently ordered the Jawbone JAMBOX from Amazon after hearing a number of Podcasters that I listen to frequently rave about its sound quality and simplicity. Jawbone, well-known maker of a number of wireless bluetooth headsets, describes it JAMBOX product as:

It’s simply the smallest, best sounding wireless speaker and speakerphone on the planet.
JAMBOX delivers stunning hi-fi audio in a portable wireless speaker so compact you won’t believe it when you hear it. It’s loud. With an output capacity of 85 decibels, JAMBOX fills even the largest rooms. Unlike other portable speakers, JAMBOX is powered by a pair of proprietary, highly sophisticated acoustic drivers, unmatched in their ability to produce extreme high (tweeter) and low (woofer) frequencies from a single, ultra-small dome speaker. They work in concert with an innovative moving-wall passive bass radiator and airtight enclosure to deliver shimmering highs and thumping lows that you can literally feel – the richest sound all in the palm of your hand.

What impresses me the most about the JAMBOX is how easy it is to pair and setup. I am no newbie to pairing bluetooth devices with my iPhone, iPad, and computers. I have quite a few bluetooth headsets, headphones, keyboards, mice, etc. None of them however, is as simple and easy to pair with my iPhone or iPad as the JAMBOX.

Another great feature of the JAMBOX is the battery life. This speaker runs on and on without need a recharge. And when it does, it won’t take very long before it is ready to go again.

The most surprising feature is the sound. For a little speaker device with a very small footprint, the sound that comes from the JAMBOX is really pretty amazing. It won’t replace your home stereo system or those expensive speakers you have, but for an extremely portable speaker, the JAMBOX has a very nice sound with very good bass. It is perfect for business trips, vacations, the deck outside while you are grilling or enjoying a BBQ, along with a host of many other places and applications.

In addition, it serves as a microphone/speaker for phone conferences. I haven’t tried the JAMBOX as a speakerphone yet, but I would not be surprised if it performed well since it has met and exceeded all my other expectations.
Downsides? I only have found one – the price. The JAMBOX is more expensive than other bluetooth speakers and should be about $50 to $75 cheaper to be at the perfect price point. However, it is better to spend a little more than you want to in order to get a product this good than to spend less and get a product that is disappointing in one or more of the areas I have discussed.

Summary: I highly recommend the Jawbone JAMBOX for anyone who is looking for a portable bluetooth speaker to connect to with an iPhone or iPad (or other portable device). Small size, long battery life, and great sound all add up to a satisfying purchase.
