The Roach Motel – Days Inn, Dalton, GA

We went about 13 hours yesterday from Sebring, FL to Dalton, GA. I had hoped to make it further, but I was too tired and fighting a debilitating headache all day long. We picked up supper at a Chick-Fil-A south of Atlanta. What a great place as far as atmosphere. Friendly staff – “Ya’all need anything else?” Carter liked the cow character that was entertaining the restaurant patrons during family night. Emilee liked the free ice cream to top off the meal.

We made an emergency stop about 30 minutes later at another Chick-Fil-A on the north side of Atlanta off of I75 so Carter could take care of business. When I got back into the vans, we had another episode with our Caravan’s computer system – no lights, window would not go up and lights on the dash blinked. This is what I paid a couple of thousands last month to fix! After feeling some tightening in my chest (I did not want to spend the night in Atlanta) I tried starting the van again and it kept running and the headlights came back on. Whew! “Thank you, Lord!”

We finally decided to pull over at Dalton and get some rest. We found a moderately priced Days Inn just off of I75 and called it a night. The following morning, Carrie got up and found our visitor. A roach walking on the ceiling in the bathroom. This is the fourth roach encounter this vacation. I went in like a knight in shining armour to kill it, but I could not find it. Her face went long. I suggested that maybe he found a comfortable place to travel home with us. After that, I was forced to search everyone’s shoes, etc. Later, when Emilee finished showering, she spotted our friend on the bathroom wall. I went in and chased the critter around the bathroom to bring about his demise. Actually, they are pretty hard to catch. Finally, the roach met his end and I flushed him down! Carrie shared the news with the hotel desk manager, who did not seemed surprised nor concerned. I suggested that he might want to charge us extra for the extra room companion.

Oh, well, something to talk about in the future…
