SIM City: Saga of an iPhone SIM lockup

I spent most of my day, Saturday, driving to the Orlando Apple Store and back in an effort to revive my iPhone. The problem began on Friday. I was heading over to my Father-in-law’s home to help with a small remodeling project. I decided to leave my iPhone at the home where we are staying rather than bring it along.

Andy Ihnatko puts iMovie ’09 stabilization to the test

Andy Ihnatko, technology free lance writer, posted this YouTube video demonstrating the new stabilization features of iMovie ’09, part of  iLife ’09. He used a Flip Video MinoHD Camcorder to shoot the video. Amazing stuff!

I had very similar results with a video I shot from my Canon SD1000 digicam.

HowTo: Installing Windows 7 on a Mac

Christina Warren from TUAW has an article at Download Squad on installing Windows 7 beta on a Mac:

Although Intel Macs can run Windows 7 in Boot Camp, for most users, the easiest and most hassle-free method will be to use virtualization. This way, you can test out all the features of Windows 7, without having to dual-boot.

MacWorld SF Keynote: Delighted? or Disappointed?

Phil Schiller’s keynote address at MacWorld San Francisco is over. Like many Mac users who were unable to attend the keynote address and conference, I followed the address on the web. Announcements regarding updated software like iLife ’09 and iWork ’09 were made. A new 17″ MacBook Pro was unveiled (similar to the 15″ MacBook Pro and 13″ MacBook arrivals last October, 2008).

But I am one of those guys that likes to think I have my whole library always available for any situation. You know, like when I am at the park with my beautiful wife, a quaint picnic blanket and lunch, and a beautiful azure sky with one or two large cumulus clouds lazily floating across the sky.

Apple Earphone cord management

John Gruber in his Daring Fireball blog talks about changes to the familiar Apple white earbuds that are standard issue for the iPhone/iPod.

Like most of you, I suspect, I’ve wound up with an awful lot of white Apple earphones over the last seven years. There have been subtle changes to the earbud shape, and the iPhone introduced the wonderful clicker (click for play/pause, double-click for next track, triple-click for previous track), but one thing has remained a constant: the cords get terribly tangled when bunched up in a pocket or pouch.

The “Smartest” Smartphone

image of iPhone 3GI am going to lay my cards on the table up front. I love my iPhone. Like many other happy iPhone owners, my iPhone continues to surprise me on a regular basis at how well it meets so many of my needs (and even some wants). I am a Mac user so almost every other smartphone or pda that I have ever owned has needed some third party help to lasso my calendar, address book, and other personal information together across all my digital platforms.
